New Royal Decrees – Consumer Protection Law and Competition Protection and Monopoly Prevention Law
Two very significant legislations have been issued in the month of December. These Royal Decrees are (i) the Royal Decree 66/2014 promulgating the Consumer Protection Law (the new Consumer Protection Law replaces the old Consumer Protection Law); and (ii) the Royal Decree 67/2014 promulgating the Competition Protection and Monopoly Prevention Law. Ministerial Decision to temporarily restrict recruitment of non-Omanis in sales and marketing positions
The Ministry of Manpower has recently issued Ministerial Decision 339/2014 which extends the restriction on the private sector establishment from recruiting non-Omani workforce in sales and marketing positions.
The decision came into effect on 1 December 2014 and shall be valid for a period of six months. This decision is not applicable to the establishment registered under the excellent grade category and the international grade companies.
Resolution setting out criteria for special purpose water desalination installations
The Public Authority for Electricity and Water by its Resolution 2014/245 issued on 8 December 2014 issued the criteria for special purpose water desalination installations in the Sultanate of Oman.
